Srđ, the Ombla and the big bridge
This short trip starts close to home for us. Maestro Travel is based in Lozica, right by the Franjo Tuđman Bridge, and the Ombla spring is only a short drive up the inlet.
In about two hours you see where the river begins, how the harbour looks from the bridge and how the Old Town looks from the hill above it. A nice first afternoon in Dubrovnik, and an easy one for small children or grandparents.

Dubrovnik from Srđ
Ombla
The plan
The Ombla spring
At the head of the inlet a full river pours out of the karst and flows only a short way before it meets the sea. Even in August the water is icy.
Franjo Tuđman Bridge
We pull over by the white cable-stayed bridge to look down over Gruž, its ferry and cruise port, and the Elaphiti islands on the horizon.
Bosanka
A winding road leads up to this small village on the plateau behind Dubrovnik.
Srđ
The whole Old Town is laid out below you, with its walls, its red roofs and the island of Lokrum offshore. In the fort at the top there is a small museum about the siege of 1991.
Good to know
Late afternoon gives the warmest light on Srđ. In spring and autumn the summit can be breezy, so take a jacket.
