Trsteno, Slano and Ston
North of the city the coast is calmer, with small bays and the old summer villas of Dubrovnik's noble families. This day follows the coast road from Lozica as far as Ston.
Nothing is rushed: shady paths in the morning, a dip or a coffee at midday, and stone walls in the afternoon.

The plan
Trsteno Arboretum
The garden of a Renaissance summer villa, later turned into an arboretum, sloping down towards the sea. By the entrance stand two huge old plane trees.
Slano
A long inlet with calm water and a little harbour, a good spot for a swim.
Ston
Five kilometres of walls looping over the hill, and below them the salt pans that paid for them.
Good to know
Give Trsteno an hour or more; the paths wind all the way down to the water. Arboretum and wall tickets are bought at each entrance.
