Dubrovnik to Split with a beach stop at Makarska
About two-thirds of the way to Split, the bare grey wall of Biokovo rises behind a string of pebble beaches. This is the Makarska Riviera, and on a hot summer day it is very hard to drive past.
You can choose the town or the pines. Makarska has a busy promenade, a harbour and lots of cafés; Brela is smaller, with clear water and trees growing almost to the waterline.
